It’s roots in regenerative agriculture, family legacy, and the Montana way of life
Sego Lily originated out of a shocking transformation of change. Founder Holly Stoltz had used an expensive synthetic anti-aging facial cream, commonly sold in plastic surgery clinics, for years until she watched a webinar on tallow skincare. She ordered a bottle, took a before picture, and never looked back.
However, the farther she got into her chemical-free skincare journey, the more she and her husband could smell a “meaty” scent all the time. While many may not realize what meat smells like, it bothered her that such an effective product was also such a turnoff. So she went to work.
After months of trial and error, making sure she was not diluting the tallow in her formulations, yet still creating an appealing skincare regimen, she finally perfected it, and Sego Lily was born.
The literal disappearance of wrinkles in her face was undeniable. This transformation was the catalyst behind Sego Lily, but her true belief in regenerative agriculture and its power to heal inside and out was her motivation. Holly has witnessed firsthand the land transformation across Montana, from the increase in plant species and animal biodiversity to the increased quality of life for generational ranch families.
She truly believes we must all do our part to encourage more landowners to transition to a more holistic management system. If you, as a consumer, can do it by supporting these ranching families, then you are making a substantial difference.
I had used an expensive facial cream for over 10 years, thinking it was improving the wrinkles on my face. Then I tried tallow, and I was blown away by the results.
Sego Lily Founder, Holly Stoltz
It was a Montana rangeland specialist and regenerative agriculture practitioner who came up with the name. Sego, the Italian word for tallow, was the first step. But it was her knowledge of native grassland species that solidified it. Sego Lily is a native flower that sprinkles the Montana landscapes. This flower’s connection to the land and livestock well-being truly speaks to Sego Lily’s mission and vision.
The Sego Lily’s illustrious history also has played a part in naming our tallow skincare line.
In Native American legend, the Sego Lily is believed to possess spiritual and healing properties. It was often associated with purity, renewal, and the cycle of life. Its white petals with vibrant purple and yellow centers are said to represent the connection between nature and the divine, and mystifying those for its tenacious ability to survive for centuries on the arid plains.
Timeless, Renewal, and Moxie are all inspired by the Sego Lily and the healing power of regeneratively raised tallow. They reflect the incredible gifts of nature and the colorful tapestry that makes up native grasslands.

Regenerative agriculture is the new buzzword, and companies all over the world are jumping on board – some for the greater good and others for worse, even greenwashing to trick their customers. But out here on the ground, it is positively changing the way ranchers think about the land, their livestock, and the health of their families. It truly is a holistic revolution.
So, what is regenerative agriculture? At it’s core, it is working in harmony with nature instead of against it.
There’s no strict rule book, but the holistic principles are meant to restore soil and ecosystem health, drawing down carbon and leaving our land, waters, wildlife habitat, and climate in better shape for future generations. Ultimately, regenerative agriculture grows healthier food and other products, like skincare, to improve our overall health.
Holly Stoltz grew up on a dairy in the Paradise Valley, between Livingston, Montana, and Yellowstone National Park.
Throughout her professional career, Holly has been involved in agriculture. But it wasn’t until recently that she learned of a different and ultimately better way to steward the land and livestock.
The old adage, “We do what we do because that’s how my dad did it and his dad before him,” was a tough nut to crack. But since learning about regenerative agriculture, the Stoltz family have shifted their paradigms from taking from the land to giving back.
Holly, along with her husband Trent, have three grown children. Their eldest son is back on the ranch as the 5th generation, while their daughter lives just 15 minutes away, and their youngest son is spreading his wings in Texas.
what makes us different
As a family ranch, we can sometimes take our closeness for granted. That is why we strongly believe in creating opportunities to make "work" fun for the whole family. Whether it be a day rounding up cattle on horseback and ending with dinner on the campfire or hiking through the hills looking for antlers or rocks, these times are the bonds that keep us going.
In a world where there is so much division, one thing has always rung true: Respect people's choices, embrace their differences, and always think about their situation before casting judgment on their actions.
We are blessed to live where we do and grow healthy food in Montana's wide open spaces. We understand that the majority of people will never get to experience what some take for granted, so it is our desire to share these incredible opportunities with you.
As much as we try to convince ourselves otherwise, Mother Nature always knows best. We just need to get out of her way, and regenerative agriculture or holistic management is helping to remind us of this every day.
The inspiration behind the name “Sego Lily” stems from its representation as a resilient wildflower native to the wide-open spaces of the western United States, embodying purity, beauty, and the power of nature to thrive in challenging conditions. It symbolizes our commitment to harnessing the natural, regenerative powers of the land, much like the resilient Sego Lily flourishes in the wild landscapes of Montana and beyond.
At Sego Lily, we weave holistic management practices into our skincare products by sourcing regeneratively raised grass-fed tallows that promote soil health, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration directly from a dedicated ranch in Montana. This approach ensures that every product we offer not only nurtures your skin but also supports a healthier planet by aligning with practices that mitigate climate change and enhance ecosystem resilience.
Regenerative agriculture sails beyond traditional farming strategies, nurturing ecosystems through practices that rebuild soil organic matter and restore degraded soil biodiversity—resulting in both carbon drawdown and improving the water cycle. Sego Lily, rooted deeply in these principles, passionately crafts its skincare line using grass-fed tallows sourced directly from regeneratively managed ranches in Montana, spotlighting a commitment to health, community, and the environment.
