Does Beef Tallow Clog Pores?
Beef tallow can clog pores on some skin, and plenty of oily and acne-prone skin does well with it. It depends on your skin and on how the fat was rendered. Everyone's skin is different, so try a small amount on one area first, especially on your face, and give it two weeks.
Tallow has some of the same fatty acids as your skin's own oil, and it soaks in instead of sitting on the surface. Holly's view is that it's a fallacy that adding oil to already oily skin makes it worse.
How the fat was rendered matters too. Ours is kidney suet, the most nutrient-dense fat on the animal, rendered low and slow, three times.
We don't call it non-comedogenic, because nobody has tested our jars for that.
If your skin is sensitive or acne-prone, Renewal is the jar made for it, in Mandarin Orange or Unscented. And if your face doesn't take to it, the same jar still works on heels, hands and neck.

Kidney Suet, Rendered Three Times
Every jar starts with kidney suet, the hard fat from around the kidneys. Holly calls it the extra virgin of tallow. It comes from the B Bar Ranch in the Tom Miner Basin, a USDA certified organic ranch since 1993, where the cattle stay on grass right through finishing.
Holly renders it herself, in her own kitchen near Pompeys Pillar, low and slow, three times. The render is why it doesn't smell like beef: the meaty smell is gone before any scent goes in.
What we leave out
No water. No water means no preservative system.
No essential oils. Scent comes from plant-based fragrance, which fuses into the fat. Renewal Unscented and Baby & Mom have none.
No whipping. Whipped tallow is full of large air bubbles that oxidize nutrients. We micro-aerate it instead, to keep the vitamin A, D, E and K and make it easy to spread.
What's in Each Jar
Every butter starts with the same tallow, which naturally carries the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. What changes from jar to jar is the oil that goes with it.

Organic argan and hibiscus oils, for mature skin.
Renewal
Tallow butter for sensitive and acne-prone skin.
Moxie
Organic babassu and perilla seed oil, for very dry, cracked skin.
Baby & Mom
Pure tallow, unscented, with nothing added.
Lip Balm
Organic pomegranate seed oil, babassu oil and organic beeswax.
Deodorant
Organic coconut oil, natural zinc oxide, arrowroot and beeswax.

USDA Certified Organic
Sego Lily is USDA certified organic. That covers every butter and the lip balm, in every scent. The deodorant is the one exception, and its certification is in progress.
To Holly's knowledge, Sego Lily is one of only three USDA organic tallow brands in the US.
The USDA's "organic" label means at least 95 percent organic ingredients, and a USDA-accredited certifier reviews the label before it's used. That's why you'll never see us write 100 percent organic. How USDA organic labeling works.
